Predator camp - Overnight in the park
Would you like to sleep among our predators in the park? You have the opportunity to do so!
You can book yourself into our exclusive lodges, which are located right next to bears, wolves, lynx and wolverines inside the park. You may not hear much from them during the day, but they are right next to you!... They are very quiet hunters. We also have times on days when you can experience these animals.
Otherwise see our 2 unique animals you get special close access to: Arctic Fox and Lynx. There are only 4 people who get access per day in an agreed meeting.
Arctic fox: every day in high season. Book access either online or at the entrance.
Gaupe/Lynx: Tuesday and Thursday only in high season. Book access either online or at the entrance.

Sleeping on reindeer skins in summer, you may be lucky enough to wake up to teddy bears pawing outside on a bright summer night, or wolves howling on a starry winter's night. - Exotic and very special all year round! Our 5 Gammer/ cabins are extremely popular and you must book your experience well in advance! ATTENTION. Seasonal opening hours*.
Breakfast is probably not included in the gams/cabins. You may have brought it yourself, - but you also have the opportunity to buy breakfast at Namsskogan Hotel on the other side of the E6 highway. It must be booked in advance. Telephone: +47 743 33 700
General info:
Remember to bring a good sleeping mat and a good sleeping bag, as only simple reindeer skins are laid out in gamma as a base; - which is cozy, but alone and only that; can be somewhat hard to lie on. In addition, it's a good idea to bring a torch in late fall and towards winter, as it can get very dark where you are. In the summer, from May to the beginning of August, there is some Arctic light/midnight sun all day long, weather permitting. We are close to the Arctic Circle. In the fall after that, as you know, it can quickly get dark. The cabins have a small wood-burning stove indoors and firewood is provided in the cabins. There is a barbecue area and seating outdoors. Firewood is included and available for use in the gams.
Bring your camera, you will have great and unique opportunities to take pictures of our animals and nature in good interaction.
PS. We have a drone camera ban outside of approved license for use. Approval for use in the park area can be granted by the administration of Familieparken upon request.
You can visit the park in the evening to study the animals in peace and quiet - there's a special calm atmosphere here after the park closes.
You can sit around your Gamme/cabin with fireplace and just enjoy the silence that may be broken by growling, perhaps snoring sleeping bears next to the gammas, or howling wolves in the evening. In summer you can fish for trout in Tronestjønna inside the park - fish of 1 kilo are certainly not unusual! You can borrow a boat, canoe or bicycle boat free of charge if you wish. Ask about it at the reception. Note that life jackets are mandatory! - You can borrow them free of charge from us before borrowing boats, in the Kiosk in high season before 17.00 or upon request, for your later arrival. In low seasons, different sizes are available at the Kiosk, or ask us at the Park entrance. Put life jackets back, and attach boats at the same lending point!
Toilets and a hydrant can be found at Fjellstu, close by. We have the cleanest clear spring water straight from Tromsfjellet. Showers and laundry after your stay can be found in our sanitary building at the campsite by the hotel.
The big log at Fjellstu, incl. firewood, is for the use of our predator campers.
The swimming pool is open in low season only Friday and Saturday 17-19. High season every day 17-19 except Sunday. See info here.
The accommodation itself costs NOK 1850,- per range per night. There is room for 5 people per gamme. Check-in at Rovdyrcamp can take place from 14:00 until the park closes. See our opening hours for different seasons. You can also book your camp directly at our entrance in the Family Park. However, a day ticket to the park will be charged if you arrive and check in 1 hour before closing time at 18.00 in high season. Or 1 hour before closing time at 17.00 in low seasons. Check-out and delivery of the key for the stay at the campsite is by 11:00 am the following day. All seasons.
If, for various reasons, your arrival may be later than the Park's closing time, we will still give you an opportunity to gain access to the Park and hand over the key to your gamme. Then you fill out the registration papers laid out for you at an agreed location. This is agreed in advance by contacting the administration in Familieparken.
Call us as soon as possible about later arrival after closing time in the Park.
Please contact us if you have any questions at the hotel reception on the joint number +47 74 33 37 00. Request contact with Familieparken/Rovdyrcamp. - We solve most things there.
Check-out the next day after your stay is by 11:00. Exit, key and check-out for stays are via the reception/ entrance in Familieparken every day. A new day ticket in the park will be added after check-out at 11.00 am if you want 1 more day in the Park. Earlier check-out before the park opens - on a possibly very early morning - is agreed with us in advance. We also solve it.
winter season *
As far north as we are, we have around 2 months of partial darkness in November - January and as a big plus we often get to experience in all the fine winter months during the winter period; -the fantastic Northern Lights, which play magically in the night sky. And you can experience the wolves in the park howling at the moon...The very finest cold time up here - this must be experienced! - The crunch of shoes in freezing snow at -20 degrees. Fantastic! Our bears are sleeping safely in their dens, and our many other animals and birds are in their houses and stables. -Apart from the wolf, lynx, wolverine, and hoofed animals such as moose, reindeer, deer, foxes, etc. They are, of course, in winter activity. Exciting!
Ps. Bear release for our hibernating bears in the spring is around March. This will be announced on our website and social media in advance.
For bookings and stays outside our open seasons* please contact us well in advance at post@familieparken.no! Tags: The Family Park/Predator Camp.
We do not let ANYONE into our park without an employee. Access and price are agreed in advance, whether visiting groups, or individual visits.
